Welcome

Welcome to our Music Assisted Therapy group for kids! Here well explore how music can be a powerful tool for emotional expression, healing, and growth in children. Our group aims to provide a safe and creative environment for kids to connect with their emotions through music!

Where: 1434 Kingston Rd. (Warden & Kingston Rd.) Willow Tree Mind & Wellness Centre

When: Mondays for 6 weeks from Sept 11th - Oct 16th

  • Cohort A (6-8yr olds) - 4:15-5:15

  • Cohort B (9-12 yr olds) 5:25-6:25

Who: Children 6-8yrs old (cohort A) and 9-12yrs old (Cohort B) that may struggle with anxiety, emotional regulation or expressing their emotions - and love music!

Benefits of Music Assisted Therapy:

  • Emotional expression: music offers a non-verbal outlet for children to express their feelings, even when they struggle to find the right words.

  • Emotional Regulation: engaging with music, dance or playing an instrument has a profound effect on our levels of stress, anxiety reduction and our ability to regulate our emotions throughout our bodies.

  • Self Confidence: As children learn to create music or participate in group activities, their self confidence and self esteem can grow!

  • Social skills: group music activities encourage collaboration, turn taking, and communication among peers to boost social skills.

  • Coping Skills: Through music, children can learn healthy ways to cope with challenging emotions

Who Runs the program?

We have a team that supports the development and implementation of our Music Assisted therapy program! Our program is clinically supported by a Board Certified Behaviour Analyst (BCBA) and a Registered Social Worker (RSW) to ensure quality therapy services.

Meet Tracy Lee!

Tracy is a Child and Youth Therapist and Children’s Music Teacher! Tracy has been teaching Music to children for over 6 years and playing music for over 15 years! She was previously a teaching assistant for McMaster University’s Music Therapy courses during her undergraduate studies. She completed her Seniors Honours Thesis on children’s ability to comprehend emotions and express them musically. Tracy is passionate about teaching music and helping children connect with their emotions! You can learn more about Tracy on “Our Team” page on our website.

  • The program is for children 6-8 or 9-12 that enjoy music and would benefit from a Music assisted program to support their social-emotional development!

    We are inclusive

  • Our Music Assisted therapy group is $75 per session.

  • Sessions are run Weekly for 6 weeks

    6-8 year old’s: Mondays 4:15-5:!5

    9-12 year old’s: Mondays 4:25-5:25

    Sept 11-Oct 16th (No session on Thanksgiving)

  • This program is eligible under Extended health benefits for Registered Social Workers (RSW) and is also eligible using OAP Funding as we have approved clinical supervisors.
